What is Chilis for Charity?

To promote the launch of the new Chili pepper focused Spice Market Menu, Mama Fu’s held a chili pepper eating challenge benefiting five Austin charities with a total prize pool of $25,000.

Each charity’s champion(s) had to chew and swallow up to nine increasingly spicy peppers. The peppers ranged from the simple Jalapeno to the hottest pepper on Planet Earth, the Carolina Reaper. As the Scoville units of each level increased, so did the cash each organization collected.

We’ve drawn inspiration from dishes throughout Asia (and borrowed a few tricks from Texas)
to bring you a menu that is full of flavor and has plenty of heat.
Ranging from a delightful kick of jalapeno to a fierce explosion of spicy goodness,
we hope that you enjoy these dishes as much as we enjoyed creating them.

poppers

Yup, we've created a delicious Asian appetizer with a spicy Texas twist! Halved jalapenos filled with blue crab meat, cream cheese and scallions, then fried in a Rangoon wrapper, topped off with a Togarashi spice blend and served with dynamite ranch.

skewer

A staple made famous by Asian street vendors, nobody can resist saucy chicken on a stick! These chicken thigh skewers are glazed with a mild honey sriracha chili sauce, served with house pickled vegetables and rice.

bacon

This dish not only celebrates China's Hunan Province and their love for everything spicy, but it was an excuse to offer thick cut bacon! Preserved red chilis, bok choy, carrot, water chestnut, and smoky bacon is tossed with your choice of protein in a black bean chili garlic sauce. Try it with shrim...

Dragon

There are Asian Dishes that will make you break a sweat, but this noodle dish will make you breathe fire. We've combined Habanero, Bird's Eye, and Arbol chilis with delicate vermicelli noodles, Thai basil, onion, baby corn, and celery. Add your choice of protein... and don't say we didn't warn you!

brisket

Ever come up with a brilliant idea in the middle of a BBQ? Mama Fu's was born in Austin TX, so naturally we decided to do a little Asian-Texas experimenting. We combined fried rice with delicious smoked brisket, charred onions, jalapenos and mushrooms. It was SO GOOD we just had to share.
